LEGENDARY gospel singer Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson has passed away at the age of 50.

LEGENDARY Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, a gospel singer, has reportedly died at the age of 50.

Black Gospel Radio first reported the musician’s death, which was later verified by saddened friends.

His cause of death has still to be determined following his untimely death on Friday.

Keith rose to prominence in 1998 with the publication of his debut gospel album, Through the Storm.

Because of his incredible singing powers, the father of two gained the nickname “Wonderboy” at the age of five.

Before embarking on his solo career, he began performing with his father and uncles as a part of The Spiritual Voices.

Ted Winn, a friend and fellow artist, paid a touching homage to the 50-year-old in an Instagram post.

He wrote: “I’m in shock & disbelief!! @keithwonderboyjohnson was an incredibly talented artist who always had a smile! 

“My deepest condolences to his family, friends, peers and all who love him. #keithwonderboyjohnson.”

While highlighting their strong friendship, gospel singer Titus Showers claimed the world had “lost a legend.”

He wrote: ” Myself and my brother spent quality time over zoom during the pandemic ministering and encouraging one another.

“What a blessing it was to share that time together getting to know more about each other.

“We lost a legend in #keithwonderboyjohnson! Im so glad that we connected personally and I was able to give him his flowers before his untimely demise! 

“Heaven has gained the glorious sounds of the great @keithwonderboyjohnson!

“Prayers for the family, the music industry and all of his fans! #IJustwannaberight.”

Keith recorded 14 solo albums during the course of his career, eleven of which charted on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart.

His other albums have also charted on the Independent Albums and Heatseekers lists.

During his illustrious career, the 50-year-old also received six Stellar Awards and was nominated for two Dove Awards.

Keith is survived by his two children, Elyse and Brianna.

Keith Johnson, who was he?

Keith Lamar Johnson was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 17, 1972. Due to his wonderful singing abilities, he was given the stage name ‘Wonderboy’ at the age of five. He began singing with The Original Spiritual Voices with his father, Philip Johnson, and uncles.

Johnson’s music career began in 1998, with the publication of his debut album Through the Storm on World Wide Gospel Records. On November 24, 1998, he released his second album, Our Gift to You [World Wide Gospel].

Keith’s third album, Live and Alive, was released on January 25, 2000. On October 3, 2000, he released his fourth album, Would You. On February 6, 2001, he released his fifth album, Tribute to Quartet Legends, Vol. 1.

On May 28, 2002, Johnson released his sixth album, Send a Revival, followed by his seventh album, New Season, on April 20, 2004, and his eighth album, Our Gift to You, in September of the same year. In 2018, he released his most recent album, Keep Pushin’.

Keith released 14 studio albums with several labels over his career, including World Wide Gospel Records, Worldwide Records, Verity Records, Central South Records, and Blacksmoke Records.
