When And How Can You Get Checks To Help With California Inflation?

According to a California Franchise Tax Board official, payments will be made by direct deposits and debit cards distributed via mail.

Who Receives a Direct Deposit Payment, and When Does It Arrive?

California residents who got the Golden State Stimulus, submitted their tax returns electronically, and received their tax refund via direct deposit will have payments deposited into their bank accounts beginning Oct. 7 and ending Oct. 25.

According to state officials, the remainder will receive their compensation between October 28 and November 14. Direct deposits can take up to five business days to arrive after they are sent.

The Franchise Tax Board has also released a timetable for when consumers will receive debit cards.

  • GSS I or II check recipients (last names starting with F–M): November 6–19, 2022
  • GSS I or II check recipients (last names starting with N–V): November 20, 2022–December 3, 2022
  • GSS I or II check recipients (last names starting with W to Z): Dec. 4, 2022, through Dec. 10, 2022
  • Non-GSS recipients (last names starting with A–L): Will be announced after November 7, 2022.

What if I was supposed to receive a direct deposit but changed my bank account information after filing my taxes?

You will get a debit card payment in the mail between December 17, 2022 and January 14, 2023.

How Much Money Will I Get From This Refund?

The amount you get is determined by your adjusted gross income in California and the number of individuals who rely on you.

Taxpayers receive either $350, $250, or $200 depending on their income. They also receive an additional payment of the same amount if they have at least one dependant.

Tier 1: Individuals who file as single and earn less than $75,000 will receive $350. Individuals who file jointly and earn less than $150,000 receive $700. They will receive an additional $350 if they rely on at least one person.

For example, a married couple with one child earning $100,000 per year receives $1,050.00.

This income group accounts for around 82% of those who get government assistance.

Individuals who file as single and earn between $75,001 and $125,000 would receive $250. Individuals who file jointly and earn between $150,001 and $250,000 will receive $500. They will receive an additional $250 if they have at least one person who requires their services.

This category accounts for around 12% of those who seek assistance.

Tier 3: People earning between $125,000 and $250,000 who file as single will receive $200. People who file jointly and earn between $250,001 and $500,000 would receive $400. They will receive an additional $200 if they have at least one person who requires their services.

This category accounts for around 6% of those who receive assistance.

What If I Didn’t File A Tax Return In 2020?

Most people who did not file taxes in 2020 will not be eligible for the payment. However, the government is increasing funding for these programmes:

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or State Supplemental Payment (SSP) recipients: The SSI/SSP programme is designed for seniors who are blind or crippled, or who are 65 or older. A budget agreement passed enhances grants for individuals by around $39 per month ($470 per year) and for couples by approximately $100 per month ($1,200 per year). The hikes affect 1.1 million instances in total.

CalWORKS grantees: CalWORKS is a programme that provides financial and other assistance to families with one or more children. When combined with the previously announced increases, a family of three might receive up to $194 more per month. The price increases will affect around 369,000 homes.
