Last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled three new WhatsApp features, including the option to choose who can see when you’re online. This is one of the most anticipated features on WhatsApp, and it is currently available to users in the beta version.

3 New Features of WhatsApp

  • Hide status when online
  • Search chats by date
  • Leave a group silently

Hide Status When Online

There is some exciting news for WhatsApp users. The company has finally released the functionality that millions of consumers have been requesting for a long time. The new function is called Who can see when I am online. Users will be able to keep their online status hidden while using WhatsApp thanks to this new functionality. This option will be available to users in the Last seen and online section of WhatsApp settings. WABetaInfo, a website that monitors WhatsApp developments, has also posted a snapshot of this new function.

Who will have the authority to decide who can see your online status?
Users can update their online status by heading to the Last Displayed and Online option, as seen in the screenshot. To hide their last seen, users will have four options: Everyone, My Contacts, My Contact Except, and Nobody. At the same time, the corporation provides the options of Everyone and Same as last seen for online status. You can choose who gets information about your online status by selecting the option Who can see my last seen except My contacts.

Search Chats by Dates

If a user forgets the conversation but recalls the date, this function can help them in sorting out the chat without having to type keywords. All they need to do is filter by the date they communicated.

The new functionality will be useful for searching for key chats or recalling an essential communication between individuals or in a group on a given day.

According to sources, the Meta-owned instant messaging company is concentrating its efforts on this functionality for iPhone customers. However, WhatsApp will also make the feature available for Android smartphones.

According to the WABetaInfo report, the feature was in the process for two years but was denied later. But, “after releasing the WhatsApp Beta for iOS 22.0.19.73 from the Testflight, we found that WhatsApp is finally planning to release the feature again in the future”.

  1. Tap the icon, and you can jump instantly to a certain date to start reading all messages from that date.
  2. Scroll through the conversation to dismiss the date view.
  3. The feature will be beneficial when you want to discover the first message shared with a certain contact or read what messages were shared on a particular date.

Leave a Group Silently

WhatsApp just introduced additional layers of security to improve the app’s privacy. The possibility to exit chat groups silently was announced by the corporation. It permits someone to depart a gathering quietly. Only the admins will be alerted when you leave, rather than the entire group.

While WhatsApp already has a View Once feature that restricts the misappropriation of a photo or video shared on the service, it has now added screenshot blocking for these View Once conversations. This will provide an additional degree of security for the messages.

Other Features

WhatsApp will soon also let you send messages to yourself from linked device. The user will be able to see his or her number when searching for contacts.
