Critics Choice Awards: RRR Continues To Roar – Wins Best Foreign Language Film, Best Song

The 28th Critics Choice Awards saw SS Rajamouli’s RRR win not one, but two prizes, adding to its legacy of making India proud. At a ceremony held in Los Angeles, the film won the awards for Best Song for its viral track Naatu Naatu and Best Foreign Language Film. A video of MM Keeravaani’s acceptance speech was also released on the RRR’s official Twitter account along with the news. Naatu Naatu Once More! We are overjoyed to announce that #RRRMovie received the #CriticsChoiceAwards for BEST SONG. The caption stated, “Here is @mmkeeravaani’s acceptance speech! The RRR composer is heard saying,  “Thank you so much I am very overwhelmed with this award. I am here to receive this wonderful award by the critics. Thank you all the critics, on behalf of my chorographer, lyrics writer, my singers, my programmers and of course my director.”

Earlier, the official Twitter account of RRR re-shared the post of Critics Choice Awards congratulating RRR for winning the Best Foreign Language Film. The post read, “Congratulations to the cast and crew of @RRRMovie – winners of the #criticschoice Award for Best Foreign Language Film. #CriticsChoiceAwards.” 

RRR, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, is going places. Previously, the film was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards: Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Song. Naatu Naatu, composed by MM Keeravaani, won Best Song out of two nominations. In addition, the composer received the best music core award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Saturday (LAFCA).

The film is based on the lives of two Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr NTR). Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris also played important roles in the film.

RRR‘ is a 2022 Indian film that was shot in the regional language Telugu. S.S. Rajamouli directed the film. He also co-wrote the script with V.Vijyendra Prasad.

S.S. Rajamouli is a well-known Indian film director known for taking on large-scale projects such as ‘RRR.’ His previous films, such as Bahubali: The Beginning, Bahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Eega, have received worldwide acclaim for their stunning visual aspects and epic production.

Rajamouli also holds the distinction of having three of his films among the top five highest-grossing films in the Indian film industry. M.M. Keeravani composed the soundtrack and background score for the film RRR.

The film ‘RRR‘ is based on the fictional friendship and joint attack against British rule in India of real-life Indian revolutionaries.

The film is set in the 1920s, when the British ruled the Indian subcontinent. The film featured elaborate sets that reflected the period in which it was set.

With such high production values, it is widely regarded as the most expensive Indian film ever made.

The film, which was made on a $72 million budget, went on to become the third highest-grossing Indian film of all time and the second highest-grossing Telugu film. While the majority of the film was shot in India, several sequences were also shot in Ukraine and Bulgaria.

Apart from the stunning visual effects and epic production, the film also featured some of the biggest stars in the Indian film industry, including N.T Rama Rao Jr, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, and a few international actors, including Olivia Morris, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson, and others.

The soundtrack ‘Naatu Naatu’ had also been shortlisted in the Best Original Song category for the 2023 Academy Awards, and won.
